The Geography Of Baikal
 Lake Baikal is 636 km long, the water area is 31.500 sq. km. There are lakes in Africa and America, which are larger than Baikal. But there are no deeper water bodies among fresh water lakes in the world: the deepest place in Lake Tanganica — is 1435 m., in Lake Issyk-Kul — 702 m. But in Baikal near the largest of its islands — Olhon — the depth is 1637 m. The Baikal water is «allive» in the proper meaning of this world, from the very surface to the bottom — 1637 m. deep. Lake Baikal shelters in itself a great number of various forms of life.
In contradiction to all the other lakes in the world where lower layers are dead as they are poisoned by hydrogen sulphide and other gases, its thickness is saturated with oxygen. The water is intermixed by both horisoutal sea currents in this sea — lake around each of its three hollows and by vertical ascending and descending flows.
The Lake
 The First marvel of Baikal is its age. As a rule lakes life 25 — 30 thousand years. Gradually all the space is covered with slime, water plants become denser, the layer of sediment raises the bottom nearer and hearer to the surface and at last water — loving plants turn the blue color into the green one, a lake into a goose — foot and for many more thousands of years the newly — born bog puffs, accumulates peat and forms small mounds. Baikal is 25 million years old. Scientists calculated the amount of yearly precipitations and predict a still longer life to Baikal.
The second marvel is Baikal's «live» water. Anyone who comes to the bank of the glorious Siberian Sea is impressed by its transparence. The inhabitants of Siberia call this water bewitching. It casts a spell, it is fantastic, still more impressive are the color metamorphoses of the lake surface. The water reacts to the slighest weather changes, the sun position, moving clouds or some mist coming from taiga, to seasonal changes on the banks — snow, delicate greenery, malachite glow of summer and autumn fire. Tints change from white-blue, silver-grey, to sharp dark blue or slate black with white splashes of waves. Even those who live there and see this lake-sea every day and every hour cannot boast that they have twice seen Baikal the same.

| Day 5 | Breakfast. Return to Listvyanka by motorboat (26km, 1,5 hours) Departure at 13:00 by rented cruise ship «Zaisan» (or «Baikal»). We cruise along South-West Baikal coast. |

 The best way to explore the Baikal Lake. Cruise round Baikal lake by small ship «Yaroslavets», where 8 — 10 persons could be accommodate in two cabins. You will see all the most interesting places of Baikal Lake and it's region, rest and explore the wild nature and National Parks.
Program:
| Day 1 | Arrival in Irkutsk. Transfer to Museum of Siberian wooden architecture Taltsi (50 km, ~1 hs), further to Listvianka on the bank of Baikal lake, excursion to the Museum of Limnology, walking to Chersky Stone. Night in hotel or homestay. |
| Day 2 | Boarding ship, boating to Peschanaya bay (6 h), with sand beach, ancient cedars on stilted roots, walking (~2 hs). Night boating to the Olkhon island (8 hs). |
| Day 3 | Morning arrival on Olkhon Island — the biggest island on Baikal, sacred place for Buryats, walking. Night boating to Kotelnikovsky cape (11 h). |
| Day 4 | Arrival on Kotelnikovsky cape, walking in the taiga — forest on Baikalski range, half day , hot springs bathing. Night boating to Severobaikalsk (8 h). |
| Day 5 | Arrival in Severobaikalsk, visit museum of BAM, Walking (2-3h), boating to Khakusy (3 h).
Khakusy is the famous hot springs resort, walking here and bathing. Night boating to Davsha (10 h). |
| Day 6 | Arrival in Davsha. Davsha is administrative center of Barguzin reservation, visit museum of reservation, walking. Boating to mouth of river Shumilikha (4 h). 2 hours trek along the river to the lower Shumilikha lake, (about 7 km), making the camp (tents). Overnight in the tents. |
| Day 7 | Walking trip to the lakes to the upper part of river Shumilikha which flows with strong noise and is famous by it's nice waterfalls (half day). Return to the bank and boat. (if you would not like to have a trek and tent`s overninght you can walk at the lower part of nice river Shumilikha, taiga forest, and have a night on the boat). Boating to base «Malaya Cheremshanaya» (2 h). Night on the tourist base. |
| Day 8 | Rest at the base, sauna, walks, fishing, barbecue from the fish, fire at night. Overnight at the base. |
| Day 9 | Boating to Chivircuisky gulf and Snake's bay (3 h), bathing in the hot mineral springs. Leaving the ship and transport by minibus to Ust — Barguzin. Night in homestay or hotel. |
| Day 10 | Ust-Barguzin is the center of ZaBaikalsky National Park, visit museum of the park, transportation to Ulan-Ude by bus — the capital of Republic Buryatya. Accommodation in the hotel. |
| Day 11 | Bus excursion to the Ivolginsky Datsan — sacred place for all Buryats and buddists. City tour. Boarding night train to Irkutsk. |
| Day 12 | Transfer to the hotel. Accommodation in hotel. City tour. |
| Day 13 | Local train trip along Trans-Siberian railway, 1 hour of pleasant walk in taiga forest to Krugobaikalskaya railway (Old Around Baikal RailWay) — the «Golden buckle of Siberia» — with 39 tunnels and bridges during only 86 km along Baikal shore. Short walks along the tunnels and getting the train of Krugobaikalskaya railway (3 hs). Arrival in Listvianka, transportation to Irkutsk. Accommodation in the hotel. |
